Produced by Filmation as a part of the Superman/Aquaman Hour of Adventure, the Green Lantern cartoon shorts followed the adventures of Air Force test pilot Hal Jordon, who in his super-hero alter-ego of the Green Lantern fights criminals and would-be world beaters with his "power ring." The Green Lantern was a Filmation animated series that aired as part of CBS' Superman/Aquaman Hour of Adventure hour, which aried from 1967 to 1968. Premiering on September 9, 1967, this 60-minute program included a series of six-minute adventures featuring various DC Comics superheroes that included the Lantern.
The brief series is based on the DC Comics character of the same name, he was given the power ring and battery (lantern) by a dying alien named Abin Sur, whose spaceship crashed on Earth. Abin Sur used his ring to seek out an individual who was "utterly honest and born without fear" to take his place as Green Lantern.
The Green Lantern also makes an appearance with the Filmation version Justice League, which also had three short similar to the Green Lantern and other cartoons airing during the series' run. In addition, in the series, Green Lantern was joined by an alien sidekick named Kairo (sometimes spelled Cairo or Kyro).
