About This Site...

Welcome to the Superhero Cartoon Network online, a jumping-off point for locating and downloading superhero-related cartoons. We will be updating our files daily, starting in alphabetical order (listed by the actual name of the main character, not necessarily by the name of the show).
What makes the Superhero Cartoon Network different from other such download link sites is that we will endeavor to upload and post individual cartoons from the superhero genre—both old and new—in the MPEG format. This means that these files are ready to be watched or burned to a DVD recording device once downloaded. Where files for a particular cartoon are too large to be uploaded as single MPEG files, they will be split and uploaded as smaller MPEGs. In the event that files are too large or impractical to be uploaded as MPEGs, we will upload them as AVI files, which when are downloaded and extracted, will make a single AVI after you convert the resulting AVI to an MPEG (naturally, you will need the proper software to accomplish this with. Below are the links to free software that will allow you to do this; most of these programs are user-friendly, and only requires basic computer literacy).

Iron Man (1990s)

The Show:
Iron Man is an animated television series based on Marvel Comics' superhero Iron Man. The series aired from 1994 to 1996 in syndication as part of The Marvel Action Hour, which packaged Iron Man with another animated series based on Marvel properties, the Fantastic Four, with one half-hour episode from each series airing back-to-back.

Background:
Although only lasting two seasons, Iron Man was the subject of a major overhaul between seasons when its production studio was changed. The result was a massively changed premise, tone, and general approach, which left the disparate seasons scarcely recognizable as being two halves of the same series.
The first season of Iron Man featured little more than a Masters of the Universe-style battle of "good against evil", as billionaire industrialist Tony Stark battled the evil forces of the world-conquering Mandarin as the armored superhero, Iron Man. In his evil endeavors to steal Stark's technology and Iron Man's armor, the Mandarin led a large group of villians. To combat these villains, Iron Man had the help of his own team (based on Force Works, a then-current comic book team which has since faded into obscurity), including Century, War Machine, Scarlet Witch, Hawkeye and Spider Woman. The season consisted mostly of single-episode open-and-shut-case adventures.
In 1995, Marvel switched The Marvel Action Hour to a new animation studio (as previously mentioned, the animation in Season 1 was provided by the Rainbow Animation Group, while the animation in Season 2 was provided by Koko Enterprises), and with it came new writers.
The new storylines spanned multiple episodes and were no longer "open and shut" cases. They formed a linking narrative, featuring themes of duplicity, consequence, and phobias. Also, the stories were no longer centered on the Mandarin, whose 10 rings of power (one for each finger) had been scattered and whose power had been depleted. While the Mandarin did appear in these episodes, his appearances were reduced to cameos in the cliffhangers at the end of the story, as he tried to retrieve each ring.
In the finale,the Mandarin, having regained all of his rings, unleashes a mist using the heart of darkness to render everything technological useless. Iron Man reunites with Force Works in order to stop him. The Mandarin unmasks Iron Man before their final showdown ends in his death. After disappointing ratings, the series was cancelled.

Iron Man (1960s)

The Show:
Iron Man was one of five superheroes featured as part of "The Marvel Super Heroes" cartoon show. The Iron Man segments focused on the adventures of millionaire industrialist Tony Stark, who dons a state-of-the-art armored battle-suit and secretly fights crime as Iron Man.

Background:
Iron Man, along with the other features from "The Marvel Super Heroes" lineup was a Canadian-made animated feature and was first syndicated, on U.S. television, in 1966. What made this cartoon unique among other animated features of the time was that the animation itself was taken almost directly from the Marvel Comics-published comic book (panels) that each story/episode was based on. The result was limited articulation of movements from the animated characters in the features, that was supported by rich comic book-like sound effects that emphasized the action that was supposed to be taking place. The action was also often narrated from an omniscient-perspective by Bernard Cowan, who narrated similarly in all of the Marvel Super Heroes features.
The episodes followed the adventures of Iron Man, from his origin and first appearance through his many variations of his super-powered armor that he uses to fight crime. His main enemy is a Chinese warlord known as the Mandarin.

Incredible Hulk (1980s)

The Show:

The Incredible Hulk (1982) is a half hour long cartoon, originally aired with the Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends during its third season as the Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends and the Incredible Hulk Hour. The series premiered on September 19, 1982 and was a Marvel Production.

Background:
The series is often fondly remembered for the overwrought nature of its musical score and accompanying narration by Hulk creator Stan Lee. Some of the same background music tracks were used for Dungeons & Dragons.
Unlike the live-action The Incredible Hulk TV series, which wound up the year this was produced, this series was based more closely upon the Hulk comic in regards to the origin story (albeit with supposedly alien involvement rather than Soviet spies), as well as featuring more characters from the comics including Rick Jones (who would often refer to Bruce as "Doc"), Major Ned Talbot, who was essentially the same character as Glenn Talbot (although perhaps a little less intelligent and more clumsy then his comic book counterpart and as a result of this is referred to by his men as Noodlehead Ned), Betty Ross, and General Ross, along with the first cartoon appearance of the She-Hulk. Yet only one classic Hulk villain appeared in a single episode of the series, The Leader, with a number of villains normally associated with other Marvel characters and newly created foes filling out the other episodes.
Also introduced were the Hispanic family of Rio and his daughter Rita, the father and his efforts to advertise his restaurant (Rio's Rancheros) providing more chances for comic relief and Rita providing a love interest for Rick Jones.
The series did have a number of changes to avoid censorship issues with a younger audience including arming the troops at Gamma Base with futuristic sci-fi style weaponry. There's also the more frequently remembered quirk that whenever the Hulk transformed back to Bruce Banner, his clothes would miraculously return to normal.

The Herculoids

The Show:
The Herculoids is a Saturday morning animated television series that was produced by Hanna-Barbera Productions. The show debuted on September 9, 1967 on CBS. Hanna-Barbera produced one season for the original airing of the show, although the original 18 episodes were rerun during the 1968–69 television season, with The Herculoids ending its run on September 6, 1969.
Eleven new episodes were produced in 1981 as part of the Space Stars show. The plotlines are rooted in science fiction, and have story direction and content similar to Jonny Quest and Space Ghost.

Background:
Together, the Herculoids battled to defend their planet from menaces on Amzot/Quasar (Amzot was renamed Quasar in the Space Stars episodes). and from Outer Space. All of the Herculoids displayed Human-level intelligence as well as emotions, and Zandor and Tarra both displayed a working knowledge of complex alien technologies as well as the ability to pilot interstellar spacecraft--but essentially, Zandor, Tarra, Dorno, and the Herculoids were fighting to keep Amzot/Quasar a technology-free, primitive planet, if Zandor's, Tarra's, and Dorno's respective pseudo-barbarian outfits and the fact that technology was used mainly by the various villains, but rarely if ever by the heroes, were any indication. Although the "speech" of their companions was limited and repetitive, Zandor, Tarra and Dorno (c.f. "The Mutoids:" "Gleep says that the aliens who landed are attacking Dorno and Tundro.") demonstrated that Gloop and Gleep, at least, had a comprehensive mode of communication, and that they could at least understand and interpret the "language." In reality, the voices were brief tracks supplied by two actors and reused throughout the series, in keeping with Hanna-Barbera's thrifty ethos.

In addition to the human members of the group, the animal members of the Herculoids were as follows:
* Zok, voiced by Mike Road, a flying space dragon. He can emit laser beams from his eyes and tail. His eyes also produce a "nega-beam" that can neutralize certain energy attacks. Zok can survive in space unaided, is capable of interstellar travel, and can breathe fire.
* Igoo, voiced by Mike Road, a rock ape. An extremely large and powerful simian, he has extremely dense skin and is nearly invulnerable to harm. In one episode, Igoo wades through a pond of molten lava. Igoo has a great fondness and devotion for Tarra, and would do anything for her.
* Tundro, voiced by Mike Road, a ten-legged, four-horned rhino. He can shoot explosive energy rocks from his cannon-horn (Zandor, Tarra, and Dorno also occasionally shoot similar rocks with slingshots). His natural armor-plating is exceptionally strong, similar to Igoo's rock skin. His legs have the ability to extend to a remarkable length, somewhat like stilts. He can also spin his head at blinding speed, allowing him to drill through solid rock, and has the ability to make magnificent leaps.
* Gloop and Gleep, both voiced by Don Messick, two protoplasmic creatures. They can assume any shape or form that they choose; for instance, if they spot an allied human falling, they can make physical contact with the person, then spread out their mass to become a crude parachute to allow the human to land safely. They can also subdivide themselves into multiple smaller units (each having eyes), which move more or less in unison. Gloop is the larger of the two, while Gleep seemes to be a juvenile and is often paired off with young Dorno. Gloop and Gleep's unique physical makeup apparently provides even more protection from physical or energy-based attacks than Igoo's stony hide. They seem to be able to absorb energy blasts and laser beams.

Frankenstein Jr.

The Show:
Frankenstein Jr. was a Hanna-Barbera-produced cartoon that was originally part of the The Frankenstein Jr. and The Impossibles show which debuted on NBC in September 1966. This cartoon was later bracketed by two episodes of Space Ghost during its second incarnation in 1976 as The Space Ghost/Frankenstein Jr. Show. Frankenstein Jr. is about a boy genius and scientist named Buzz Conroy, who with his scientist father builds a giant robot named Frankenstein Jr. Together they fight crime and stomp the bad guys.

Background:
Frankenstein, Jr.: Taking place in Civic City, boy scientist Buzz Conroy (voiced by Dick Beals) and his father Professor Conroy (voiced by John Stephenson) fight supervillains with the aid of a powerful heroic robot named "Frankenstein Jr." (voiced by Ted Cassidy). "Frankie", as Buzz usually referred to him, was more than a little reminiscent of the title character in Gigantor; Buzz built "Frankie" and activated him through an energy ring.
The show was the target of complaints about violence in children's television, and was canceled in 1968. The Frankenstein, Jr. segments were later recycled in the 1976 series Space Ghost and Frankenstein, Jr., which aired on NBC from November 27, 1976 until September 3, 1977
